TOOLS & TIPS FOR PACKING

We are more than happy to offer packing services to you, but if you decide that you would rather pack some or all of your belongings yourself, here are some tips and guidelines that our customers have found useful over the years.

• Remember that these boxes have to be carried; only put books in the small boxes or ‘book cartons,’ and make sure that there is enough tape to support the weight of the contents
• You can leave your bed and bedding intact until move day; our driver will pack those up for you on the day of the move
• All boxes should be labeled as to the part of the new house where they are going, and if you pack fragile items, make sure to clearly label them FRAGILE, so the movers will know not to stack items on top of them
• We will provide you with wardrobe boxes on the day of your move – free of charge if they are returned once your move is finished that day – to allow you to keep the clothing you will need until the last moment and have it immediately available once you reach your new home
• You can leave clothes in your dresser or bureau for our movers, but take out anything that could break or spill (for example, perfume bottles)
• Large breakable items such as glass tabletops, large pieces of marble, mirrors, and paintings will be specially prepared, possibly in individual crates, by the movers
• Electronic equipment (printers, DVD players, etc.) should be put in their original packaging. If that is not possible, then our movers will be happy to pack them for you
• Lamp shades are very fragile and should be put into boxes, protected by newsprint
• Desks should be emptied to protect the desks, although two drawer filing cabinets can be left full, unless we will be taking these items down stairs at which point they should be emptied. Any drawers above the bottom two in vertical filing cabinets need to be emptied
• In order to protect your belongings from water damage it is important to NOT water any plants you will be moving for at least two to three days before moving
• If you are moving into or out of a building with elevators, please let us know so that we can work with building management to reserve those elevators for the day of the move
